Acme Packet Expands Presence in Belgacom ICS Wholesale VoIP ServicesNet-Net 4500 Session Border Controller Adds Performance and Capacity at International Service Provider VoIP Interconnect Locations
BURLINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jun. 4, 2009--
Acme Packet® (NASDAQ:APKT), the leader in session border control
solutions, today announced that Belgacom International Carrier Services
SA/NV (Belgacom ICS), a wholesale VoIP service provider with offices in
Brussels, Bern, Dubai, Singapore and New York, has deployed the Net-Net
4500 to supplement its existing network of Net-Net® 4250 session
border controllers (SBCs). The addition of the Net-Net 4500 will
provide Belgacom ICS with significant cost savings while doubling
subscriber capacity at its SIP peering locations.
Belgacom ICS is one of the world’s largest wholesale voice, data and
value-added service providers, with over 500 wireless and wireline
service provider customers, and a network footprint that extends beyond
Europe, to Africa, Asia, the Middle East and the U.S. Belgacom ICS is at
the forefront of the international communications industry, in terms of
both traffic and reach. The company enables global interworking across
all networks, technologies and services. As a result of this approach
and its joint venture with Swisscom ICS, Belgacom ICS is now one of the
world’s largest wholesale voice carriers. In November 2008 Belgacom ICS
was also awarded its 3rd “Best Wholesale Carrier” award at the World
Communication Awards in London.
Belgacom ICS will significantly reduce capex on a per session basis by
deploying the Net-Net 4500 because it delivers over twice the signaling
performance and session capacity of the Net-Net 4250 at a price that is
only slightly more. Belgacom ICS will also reduce deployment,
maintenance and troubleshooting costs, and simplify the addition of new
capabilities to their network since the Net-Net 4500 utilizes the same
version of Net-Net OS as the Net-Net 4250 platforms already deployed.
“We carefully selected Acme Packet as our SBC vendor to support the
ongoing growth and transformation of our network,” said Pierre-André
Rulmont, Chief Technical Officer, Belgacom ICS. “Of the solutions we
evaluated, the Net-Net 4500 was the most cost-effective, and Acme
Packet’s proven ability to innovate according to our specific needs made
it the clear choice.”
“Belgacom ICS’s role as a leading SIP interconnect service provider
makes it a catalyst for the continued growth of VoIP services on a
worldwide basis,” said Seamus Hourihan, vice president of marketing and
product management for Acme Packet. “Their selection of the Net-Net 4500
will enable them to continue to grow and enhance their services, and
maintain their reputation as one of the top wholesale providers in the
world.”
