Acme Packet Secures and Expedites the Deployment of Sonaecom's IMS Network Portugal's Second Largest Service Provider Relies upon Acme Packet Net-Net Session Border Controllers to Quickly Deliver Trusted, First Class IP Interactive Communications
BURLINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 26, 2008--Acme Packet(R)
(NASDAQ: APKT), the leader in session border control solutions, today
announced that Sonaecom, the second largest telecommunications service
provider in Portugal, is leveraging Acme Packet Net-Net(R) session
border controllers (SBCs) to provide security and control for its IP
Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) network. The flexibility of Acme Packet's
Net-Net SBCs enabled Sonaecom to rapidly roll out its residential and
business VoIP services.
Sonaecom, a competitive service provider in Portugal offering
fixed, mobile and converged services, has deployed Acme Packet Net-Net
session border controllers as part of an Ericsson Core IMS solution.
The flexibility and maturity of Acme Packet's solution, combined with
its rich feature set and extensive interoperability, allowed Sonaecom
to go into production with its IMS VoIP offering quickly and easily.
In just two months, the company designed and tested its network with
Acme Packet's Net-Net SBC and went to market with a highly secure,
robust set of SIP-based services for residential and enterprise
customers.
Acme Packet's Net-Net SBCs deliver a range of features for
Sonaecom's network, meeting critical requirements for security,
service reach maximization, SLA assurance, revenue and cost
optimization and regulatory compliance. Acme Packet's Net-SAFE(R)
security architecture provides Sonaecom with protection from malicious
attacks and non-malicious overloads, access control and topology
hiding. Call admission control policies on the Net-Net SBCs assure
Sonaecom's service quality and network availability. Signaling
protocol repair and header manipulation features maximize the reach of
Sonaecom's IMS services. Sonaecom also plans to use Acme Packet's SBC
to provide lawful intercept capabilities for call signaling and media
and to query for location information using the e2 DIAMETER interface
to the Connectivity Session Location and Repository Function (CLF).
It was critical that we employ a smart border solution that meets
our strict requirements for security, service control and
interoperability, said Jose Pinto Correia, Sonaecom's chief technical
officer. With Acme Packet's Net-Net session border controllers, we
not only have deployed a highly effective, mature solution, but with
its flexibility, we were able to go to market with our new VoIP
services faster than with other solutions.
Our SBC delivers advanced security, extensive support and rich
functionality for Sonaecom's IMS network, said Seamus Hourihan, vice
president of marketing and product management for Acme Packet. With
our solution, Sonaecom was able to create a compelling service
offering that reached more customers and differentiates itself from
the competition.
